Tick Control in Las Vegas

Tick Species Common in the Las Vegas Valley

Two tick species account for most concerns in the Las Vegas area. Knowing where they live and how they behave explains why effective treatment targets specific zones rather than the yard as a whole.

Brown Dog Tick
This species thrives in warm, dry climates and is the only tick capable of completing its entire life cycle indoors. A dog kennel, a pet bed, or gaps in baseboards can sustain a full infestation without any outdoor contact. Brown dog ticks feed primarily on dogs and can transmit Rocky Mountain spotted fever, a bacterial illness spread through tick bites, along with canine ehrlichiosis and babesiosis.

American Dog Tick
Unlike its indoor counterpart, the American dog tick favors grassy, irrigated, or scrub landscaping rather than open desert. Properties with established lawn areas, dense ground cover, or ornamental plantings create exactly the kind of habitat this species needs. It’s also a known carrier of Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

Both species persist in Las Vegas because irrigated landscaping creates isolated pockets of humidity and ground-level cover. The dry climate doesn’t eliminate ticks; it concentrates them in predictable spots.

How We Treat for Ticks

Our approach starts with identifying where ticks are actually present, not applying blanket treatments across areas that don’t warrant them. We focus on confirmed tick habitat: irrigated lawn edges, pet resting zones, kennel areas, and vegetation borders where rodent hosts are active.

Treatment products are selected for effectiveness against ticks at multiple life cycle stages while remaining mindful of children and pets once dry. Every technician on our team completes annual continuing education aligned with Nevada Department of Agriculture licensing requirements, so the methods we apply reflect current industry practice.

If substantial evidence of a recurring tick problem appears within 30 days of treatment, we return at no additional cost. That’s the Fischer’s service policy, and it applies to every job we complete.
